Baltic Sea West by Thorsten Ott is an absolutely fantastic scenery with a level of detail that surpasses anything that has ever been released for this simulator. It stretches from Kiel in the south-west to Gothenburg in the north-east with a lot of focus on the Öresund straight with many great docks for both small and larger vessels. Some great landmarks are also modeled such as the Turning Torso skyscraper in Malmö, Öresund Bridge, Great Belt Bridge, Laboe Naval Memorial, Älvsborg Bridge and much more.

Ports that are included in the scenery: Kiel, Gothenburg, Korsør, Gedser, Trelleborg, Falsterbo Canal, Malmö, Landskrona, Helsingör, Helsingborg and Höganäs. Have a look at the map down below to get an overview.

My favourite scenery to-date! Perfect composition of textures and detail.

If you have the Travemunde scenery you know what kind of quality to expect. Only difference is that it’s 10x bigger! 🙂

Excellent work!, one question. What digital reference cartography was used to determine the geographical positions. I would like to include it in OpenCpn, thank you very much.

      Hi Eduardo,

the positions of the tons were partly taken from Open semap and other available sources. Then they were processed with the help of a table and transferred to VS.

If we could transfer them to OpenCpn? Thorben Beimel can certainly contribute more to the process, he has put a lot of effort into it. I will ask him.

So Unfortunately, there was no digital source from which we could briefly transfer the positions.

      Best regards
      Thorsten

Excellent scenery! The best scenery add on i have ever played in vsng. Details and side of the map are very good with no impact on performance. Thank you.

I made a little Fanmade Trailer instead of a review so you can get some impressions:

I have been using the VS/VSF/VSNG series since 2006 and thus consider myself pretty experienced. Not only gameplay-wise but also regarding available content.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Baltic Sea West is by far – and I truly mean it – the most realistic, accurate and overall, polished scenery add-on ever produced for the simulation. The only piece project that comes close is perhaps Thorsten’s very own Travemünde, but due to significant differences in size, it would not be a realistic comparison either.

Everything here, from object placement and accuracy, through texture and colour choices all the way to optimization, this product is literally perfect. I dare to say, it is more mature than the host simulation itself. No, you simply cannot go wrong with this one. Even if you are not interested in sailing in Germany, Denmark and Sweden, just go ahead and buy it: trust me, you will – in no time – find a reason to push everything else aside and discover this incredible map. Without a shadow of a doubt, this is a five-star purchase.

The fact that the author is continuously updating and upgrading it, enhancing it with more and more detail also speaks volumes of his dedication and passion for the project.

Thank you Thorsten for bringing about this masterpiece!

Any plans to add Ystad and Swinoujscie soon? Great scenery btw 😉

Overall a good scenery. A lot of work and detail has been put into it. But to make it playable for most of the ships in VSNG the depth of the ports has to be adjusted. At the moment it is not possible to dock on the cruise terminals with most of the ships, because they are much to shallow. Otherwise a great scenery.
